Zoltan Istvan - The Transhumanist Wager: In Favor of Eugenics & Technological Dictatorship

Zoltan Istvan is an American-Hungarian philosopher, journalist, entrepreneur, and futurist. He has explored over 100 countries—many as a journalist for the National Geographic Channel—writing, filming, and appearing in dozens of television stories, articles, and webcasts. He also pioneered and popularized the extreme sport of volcano boarding. Zoltan later became a director for the international conservation group WildAid, to stop illegal wildlife trade in Southeast Asia. He recently published The Transhumanist Wager, a controversial fictional thriller describing apatheist Jethro Knights and his unwavering quest for immortality via science and technology. As a leading transhumanist, Zoltan presents his reasons for being in favor of humanity merging with machine. He’ll discuss his view that technology will improve on nature. Overcoming morality is his greatest concern. We’ll discuss body harm from new technologies and the ethical dilemmas they present. Zoltan argues that ultimately technology will be helpful to the “greater good” and must be implemented, even if by force and even if there are causalities along the way. In the second hour, Zoltan philosophizes about technology as evolution and luck as the prime mover of the human experience. He talks about maximizing on the transhumanist value for the evolution of our species. We parallel transhumanism with religious thinking. He’ll speak in favor of controversial subjects such as a transhumanist dictatorship, population control, licenses to have children and people needing to justify their existence in front of a committee, much like the Fabian Socialist George Bernard Shaw’s idea. He says we must use the expedient method to lead to the transhumanist society. At the end, Henrik talks about covert eugenics and ties it into technology.

The impending retirement crisis: Pushing the financial constraints of an economy where many will rely on Social Security for the bulk of their income on the backs of a growing young low wage workforce.

MyBudget360
May 8, 2014

There is a looming retirement crisis on the horizon. Most Americans are ill prepared for a long-term retirement. Back in the early 1980s, over 60 percent of American workers had access to some sort of pension plan. Today, that number is less than 10 percent. Planning for the future is challenging because it takes discipline, a steady source of income, some luck, and support from a rising market. That doesn’t always happen. That is why today, we have a large problem with older Americans not being able to retire. The latest data shows that most baby boomers will depend on Social Security as their primary source of income. Yet this money needs to come from a healthy and ideally, well paid younger population. That is simply not the case. Many younger Americans are saddled with massive student debt and others are unable to find good paying work. A large portion of profits in this recovery have gone straight to the top to a very small portion of the population. Also, a good portion of gains have come from slashing wages, cutting benefits, and squeezing productivity out of workers. This is how we have a nation where 1 out of 3 Americans have no actual savings. For many, Social Security will be the last barrier between them and being financially destitute. Just like saving for retirement takes decades, the current crisis will unfold over decades. Demographics are not looking kindly on the next decade for retirees.
The workforce is simply disappearing
It came as somewhat of a shock that a good jobs report actually sent the stock market down. Why? After digging through the data we saw that over 800K Americans actually dropped out of the labor force. This was the primary reason the unemployment rate falling from 6.7 to 6.3 percent. It is no surprise that the participation rate is falling so quickly with an aging population. But it is falling faster than anticipated. The reasons for this drop do not bode well for the economy and not all of it can be blamed on old age. There are four large trends at play here:
-1. Retirements
-2. More on disability
-3. Higher college enrollment
-4. More discouraged workers
What we know from the data, the large change is coming from numbers 2 through 4. These are not necessarily positive. Higher college enrollments can be seen as positive if students weren’t going into such massive debt. The drop in the participation rate is happening faster than even the BLS had projected. Take a look at the projected trend here:
bls participation rate
Source: BLS
In roughly 10 years, we are going to have the same labor force participation rate as we did in the early 1970s. Keep in mind the push up in the labor force from the 1940s to the 1970s was because of women entering the workforce. As we documented in the two-income trap, many had to work because of rising costs from inflation.
The decline in the participation rate is dramatic. As you have an aging population you will simply have more people depending on Social Security:
social-security-benefits-graph
Source: Social Security
There are a few major points to be made here:
“The number of total beneficiaries has increased by 28 percent since 2000.However, the number of those on disabled workers and dependents benefits has gone up nearly 100 percent over this same period. In contrast the US Population since 2000 has increased by 13 percent.”
This is so important here because these signify structural changes to how our economy will run. You have many unable to adapt to the current economy and find work. A large portion of our population is relying on these benefits to keep them from abject poverty. This is why we can have a peak in the stock market and a peak in food stamp usage with over 47 million Americans on this form of assistance.
Low wage workers carrying the burden of the old
Young Americans have a heavy burden to carry. They enter a market where a college degree is nearly a prerequisite to a middle class lifestyle since blue collar work is no longer abundant nor does it pay as well as it once did. The ticket to higher education continues to grow as do housing costs, healthcare costs, and food costs. Inflation hurts even if it is moderate when incomes are stagnant or falling.
Many good paying jobs were lost during this recession and we have yet to recover those. However, we have done well in adding lower paying jobs:
low-wage-jobs
Source: NELP
“For example, 3.6 million higher-wage jobs were lost due to the recession and only 2.6 million jobs in this segment have been added back. We are in a net-deficit of good paying jobs by 1 million. On the other hand, we lost 2 million low-wage jobs during the recession but have added 3.8 million lower-wage jobs during the recovery. A net add of 1.8 million lower-wage jobs.”
This is the labor force that is going to support a larger class of citizens fully unprepared for retirement. Most American are completely unprepared to face what is likely to be a long journey into old age. Take a look at how prepared Americans are for retirement:
Avg-Retirement-Savings
The typical working-age household has only $3,000 in retirement accounts while the typical near-retirement household has only $12,000. So we have basically one big housing expense or one minor healthcare emergency to put these families in the negative. This burden is only going to grow since age does not care about politics. Biology will not stop just because we have an ineffective Congress or Wall Street running amok turning our entire economy into one tradable casino. So far, the standard of living for many Americans is in full-on decline.
What can you do? The most important thing that you can do is not follow the herd. Prepare for retirement and save. Plan and set money aside. The government and Wall Street do not care about you and will not save you when it is too late. Keep your brain sharp and keep your skills updated. Unfortunately for millions of Americans, this impending retirement crisis is going to hit them like a ton of bricks especially when they see how little that Social Security check will go as inflation erodes the standard of living.

Israel Wants To Give Mount Zion And The Tomb Of David To The Vatican?

Michael Snyder
End of the American Dream
May 5, 2014
What would make Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu want to hand over Mount Zion and the Tomb of David to the Vatican? One member of the Knesset has publicly stated that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef has informed him that Netanyahu has formally asked for halakhic permission to give the Tomb of David to the Roman Catholic Church.
Image: Tomb of David (Wiki Commons).
And there have been persistent rumors of secret negotiations between the Israeli government and the Vatican regarding Mount Zion and the Tomb of David. So why would Netanyahu want to do such a thing? In any peace deal with the Palestinians, the Tomb of David and the Mount Zion complex should remain under Israeli control. So what is Netanyahu thinking?
Of course the Israeli government is formally denying that there is a secret deal in the works, but that has not stopped the media in Israel from reporting on these persistent rumors for months. For example, here is a brief excerpt from a recent Arutz Sheva article
Is there a secret deal between the Vatican and Israel to transfer control over King David’s Tomb to the Catholic church? An investigative report in Makor Rishon cites La Stampa Vatican Insider journalist Andrea Tornielli as saying that the deal has been nearly completed, and that Deputy Foreign Minister Ze’ev Elkin is in charge of the negotiations with the Vatican, but Israel denies any such deal.
And as I mentioned above, a member of the Knesset claims that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef told him that Netanyahu has requested formal permission to give the Tomb of David to the Vatican…
A Knesset Member said Thursday that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef told him that the Prime Minister’s bureau contacted him and asked to grant halakhic permission for Israel to hand over the Tomb of David to the Vatican.
In fact, that same article states that the entire Mount Zion complex could end up being transferred into the hands of the Vatican…
The MKs were unanimous in declaring that they intend to do everything within their power to forestall any attempt to hand over the Tomb to the Vatican. There are also reports that not just the Tomb, but the entire Mount Zion compound is up for transfer. The MKs made clear that the zone is under Israeli sovereignty and will remain so.
There have been reports, recently, of a secret negotiation channel between the Vatican and the Israeli government, regarding the Tomb – and especially its second floor, which the Vatican calls the “Room of the Last Supper” – and the Mount Zion compound.
This is pretty startling stuff. For a long time, the Vatican has been positioning itself to take control of more holy sites in Jerusalem. But the genesis for this idea may have actually come from the U.S. State Department. As WND reported last December, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry envisions the holy sites in Jerusalem being under international control…
Secretary of State John Kerry quietly presented a U.S. plan for eastern Jerusalem that calls for an international administrative mandate to control holy sites in the area, according to informed Palestinian and Israeli diplomatic sources.
The exact composition of the international mandate is up for discussion, the sources said, but Kerry’s plan recommended a coalition that includes the Vatican, together with a group of Muslim countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
If the Vatican does gain control of more of the holy sites in Jerusalem, it would move even farther in the direction of being regarded as “the top religious authority in the world”. This certainly would not bother Pope Francis. In fact, he seems to be quite eager to do what he can to bring the religions of the world together. For much more on this, please see my previous article entitled “Pope Francis And The Emerging One World Religion“.
These secret negotiations between the Israeli government and the Vatican could also be an indication that peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians are not dead. Netanyahu talks tough, but he has also publicly stated that he is “prepared to make historic peace with our Palestinian neighbors“.
And the U.S. State Department is certainly applying as much pressure as it can in order to get a “peace deal” rammed through. In particular, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry seems to spend an extraordinary amount of time twisting the arm of Israel. Just the other day, he went so far as to threaten that Israel could become “an apartheid state” if the peace talks fail…
In what may be a sign of his frustration over the failure of his peace efforts, The Daily Beast revealed on Sunday that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has said that if Israel doesn’t make peace soon, it could become ‘an apartheid state,’ like the old South Africa.
The comments were made by Kerry during a meeting with influential world leaders in a closed-door meeting Friday. The Daily Beast obtained a recording of the comments.
According to the report, Kerry’s use of the loaded term is already rankling Jewish leaders in America.
After making such a comment, Kerry should have been immediately forced to resign, but of course that did not happen.
Instead, officials from the State Department continue to turn up the heat on Israel. Just consider what some “anonymous U.S. officials” recently told the Times Of Israel
American officials directly involved in the failed Israeli-Palestinian peace process over the last nine months gave a leading Israeli columnist a withering assessment of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the negotiations, indicated that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has completely given up on the prospect of a negotiated solution, and warned Israel that the Palestinians will achieve statehood come what may — either via international organizations or through violence.
Speaking on condition of anonymity to Nahum Barnea, a prominent columnist from Israel’s best-selling daily Yedioth Aharonoth, the officials highlighted Netanyahu’s ongoing settlement construction as the issue “largely to blame” for the failure of Secretary of State John Kerry’s July 2013-April 2014 effort to broker a permanent peace accord.
They made plain that US President Barack Obama had been prepared to release spy-for-Israel Jonathan Pollard to salvage the talks. And they warned that “the world will not keep tolerating the Israeli occupation.”
But for any peace agreement to work, it isn’t just the Palestinian Authority that Israel has to deal with.
Hamas controls the Gaza Strip, and Hamas seems entirely uninterested in peace. Just consider what one of the top leaders of Hamas said on Saturday
Hamas will never recognise Israel and will not accept the conditions laid out by the Middle East peacemaking Quartet, according to the Islamist movement’s deputy leader.
Speaking late on Saturday, Mussa Abu Marzuq said Hamas, which recently signed a reconciliation deal with the Western-backed Palestinian leadership in the occupied West Bank, would never agree to recognise Israel.
We will not recognise the Zionist entity,” he said at a press conference in Gaza City.
Could he have been any clearer? The truth is that peace with Israel is absolutely antithetical to everything that Hamas stands for. The following are just a few quotes from the Hamas Charter
-”Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”
-”The land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf [Holy Possession] consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgment Day. No one can renounce it or any part, or abandon it or any part of it.”
-”The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews [and kill them]; until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: Oh Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!”
Sure, we will probably see a U.S.-brokered peace deal within the next year or two.
But it won’t bring lasting peace.
Instead, it will just set the stage for the next major war in the Middle East.

Iranian admiral says US aircraft carriers would be targeted in war

The Hill
May 6, 2014

Iran will target U.S. aircraft carriers based in the Persian Gulf if a war were to ever erupt between both countries, an Iranian naval chief warned Tuesday.
"Aircraft carriers are the symbol of America's military might," Adm. Ali Fadavi, according to the Fars news agency. "The carriers are responsible for supplying America's air power. So, it's natural that we want to sink the carriers."
Fadavi is naval chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and made the remarks as Iran completes a large-scale mock-up of a U.S. carrier.
Iran is currently building a replica of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier, which will be used in future military exercises.
The Revolutionary Guard’s navy has already targeted mock-up U.S. warships, Fadavi said, adding it took only 50 seconds to destroy one of them.
A U.S. Navy official in the Persian Gulf dismissed Iran’s warnings.
"Whatever Iran hopes to do with the mock-up, it is likely to have zero impact on U.S. Navy operations in the Gulf," Cmdr. Jason Salata, a spokesman for the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, told the Associated Press.
These moves come as diplomats prepare for a new round of talks over Iran’s nuclear program next week in Vienna.
Negotiators are expected to draft a final nuclear deal this month. They hope to strike a final deal by mid-July, which is when the interim deal reached last November expires.

Russian bombers, fighter jets 'seen over Crimea'

Yahoo News
May 4, 2014

Simferopol (Undefined) (AFP) - Several dozen Russian planes including what appeared to be strategic bombers and fighter jets have been spotted in the sky above the Moscow-controlled peninsula of Crimea, witnesses and experts said.
According to Russian media, President Vladimir Putin is poised to visit Crimea on Friday after overseeing the main military parade on Red Square when Russia celebrates its victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
A local aviation expert told AFP on Sunday that he had sighted a number of planes over the peninsula's main city of Simferopol on Saturday, including supersonic heavy strategic bombers and heavy military transport aircraft.
The expert, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he had also seen refuelling tankers and MiG-29 jets.
Another expert, Alexei Savich, who was shown footage of the aircraft, said a Sukhoi Su-34 fighter jet could be seen among the planes.
He also identified the tankers and military transport planes.
Many local residents have also seen the aircraft rumble over the peninsula including in Simferopol and the neighbouring town of Bakhchisarai.
"It was a bit scary," local resident Arzy Khaibulaeva told AFP. "Children were frightened."
She said the planes were flying low and some were seen re-fuelling in mid-air.
The Russian defence ministry declined to comment on Sunday.
Savich suggested that Moscow might be moving "some serious military aircraft" to the peninsula.
"Russia is most likely ramping up its military presence on the peninsula," he told AFP.
In March, Putin sent troops to Ukraine's Russian-speaking peninsula claiming he had to protect the local population after a popular uprising ousted Ukraine's Moscow-backed president.
